The ITS Academic Technologies team looks forward to partnering with you this academic year for teaching and learning opportunities. We want to highlight the most utilized services available to instructors at UNL.

Canvas is the LMS (Learning Management System) at the University of Nebraska - all four campuses (UNL, UNK, UNO, and UNMC) use Canvas. This provides a consistent LMS experience for students and instructors. As a cloud-based service, Canvas is built as a nimble framework for robust tools that focus on improving teaching and learning via a modern interface. Please use your MyUNL.edu credentials to log into Canvas. The UNL Canvas team is available at Canvas@unl.edu for questions or support.

Turnitin provides instructors with a web-based plagiarism detection service to identify suspected acts of plagiarism. As an available tool within Canvas, the application checks submitted documents against its database and websites to identify unoriginal content. It can also be used in formative assessment to help students learn to avoid plagiarism and improve their writing.

Zoom is the web conferencing tool used by the University of Nebraska. Zoom Pro licenses are available to UNL faculty and staff at this time; please use your My.UNL.edu credentials to log into the service. New users can claim their Zoom account by visiting, https://unl.zoom.us/ Zoom also integrates with Canvas.

UNL Academic Video is provided by VidGrid (formally ilos). This is the video streaming and lecture capture system used by the University of Nebraska. The service is available to instructors and students at UNL. The primary way to access the UNL Academic Video service is via Canvas as the service is for academic courses for credit at the University of Nebraska. Closed captioning is currently available only for individual students of need as determined by the Office of Student Disabilities. To request captioning under these guidelines, please contact the Service for Students with Disabilities office.

Box is a storage and collaboration service that gives faculty, staff and students the ability to access, store, and share content securely—anywhere, anytime, on virtually any device. The Academic technologies team recommends storing Canvas course material in Box, this include all types of files including media.

On-demand (self-paced) training on academic technologies such as UNL Academic Video, Zoom, and Canvas are available. Join the Canvas team (canvas@unl.edu) for "tea-time" training throughout the fall semester. We will be at the Henzlik Hub (1st Thursday/Month from 2-4PM), City Union (2nd Thursday/Month, 12-2PM), East Campus Union (3rd Thursday/Month from 12-2PM), Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons (LLC) (4th Thursday/Month from 2-4PM).

We invite you to participate in the Digital Materials Initiative by using digital textbooks and/or OER material. This new initiative is a partnership across the university to provide affordable course materials to students. Campus partners include: Academic Affairs, the University Libraries, Innovative Instructional Design, ITS, and the University Bookstore.

The Digital Learning Center (DLC) Exam Commons provides a web-based assessment service in a large-scale environment. It is located in the southeast corner of the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons (Love Library North). All tests are conducted at this location and all testing times must be pre-scheduled by students in advance.
