This year the Kelbel Cup was held at Primm Valley Golf Club on the Lakes course, March 25-27. This is a two day 6-person team event hosted in the Las Vegas area annually. The five schools participating were University of Nebraska, New Mexico State, UNLV, Idaho and UCCS. The students representing the University of Nebraska were: Josh Baldus, Joel Johnson, Kyle Murray, Jason Palmer, Bill Rhiley and Cordell Weber.
Day 1 format was a 4-ball competition and Team Nebraska performed very well leading the tournament by two strokes with a score of 200. Day 2 format was a two-person scramble and we improved by only a shot finishing the tournament with a 399 total.
The Team decided to switch up the pairings for day 2 which hindsight looked like a poor decision as every other school improved by at least 10 strokes with the scramble format. New Mexico State ended up winning by a shot over UCCS and UNLV with a total of 394. Even though we weren’t able to win the event the students enjoyed the experience and met new friends from other programs.
We'll take the Cup next year!
