Beth Hildebrandt and Joey Chandra - The Dynamic Duo for 2019-2020!

The PGA Golf Management Program is fortunate to have two wonderful teaching assistants on board this Fall Semester! Joey Chandra (4th year senior student) and Beth Hildebrandt (2nd year junior student) are both doing a fantastic job providing the essential support that makes the program run.

Joey Chandra (senior):

"I’m from Lexington Missouri, it’s a small town 45 minutes east of Kansas City. I grew up as the middle child so I’m very competitive! I played most sports growing up, football, wrestling, baseball, but my love was golf. When I was in high school, I started working at the local golf course because I got free golf and practice. But then I started to enjoy the job and was interested in making something like it my career.

That brought me to the University of Nebraska’s PGA Golf Management Program. Over my time here I’ve learned a lot and have spent 12 months on internship. Those experiences include time spent at Clear Creek Tahoe in Carson City NV, Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest IL, and Jess Hansen Golf Academy in Kansas City MO. My future career goals are to teach the game of golf.

My last year at the University I wanted to give something back. I also thought with the experiences I’ve had that I would be a good resource for other students. That’s why I applied for the position of Teachers Assistant. So far, the position has been great! I love helping other students as well as seeing the other side of academia."

Elizabeth “Beth” Hildebrandt (junior):

"I am currently a sophomore (junior by credit hours) PGM student from Brookings, South Dakota. I came into the program as a transfer from South Dakota State University last January. During my first internship, I spent my time out near Cape Cod at a private facility, The Kittansett Club, that allowed me to grow my professional skills and interests in the industry itself. After my time at Kittansett, I applied and was offered the opportunity to be an intern at Pinehurst Resort in the Tournament Office from May through November.

As a Teaching Assistant, I have been lucky enough to get to know the freshman students while helping teach their Qualifying Level course and getting them acclimated to campus. I have also loved setting up tournaments this fall with Joey for the student club and am looking forward to continuing this in the Spring! Additionally, I am the membership chair for the Student Club which allows me to work with students to organize social events, such as bowling nights and mini-golf, while also working on merchandise orders for the club. Being involved within the PGA Golf Management program is important to me because it allows me to gain skills and friendships leading into my PGA career."

There is no doubt that the program cannot accomplish all that it does without the help of our fantastic Teaching Assistants. From being a point of contact for fellow students in the program to managing some of the essentials that make classes run to providing the student point of view, TA’s are essential.

Thank you, Joey and Beth, for making a difference in the lives of all PGA golf management students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln!
