2019 was a big year on the golf course for UNL PGA Golf Management alum Alex Beach. Alex qualified for the PGA Professional National Championship through his performance in the 2018 New Jersey PGA Championship. The National Championship was held at Belfair in Bluffton, SC (https://www.pga.com/story/alex-beach-outduels-danny-balin-to-capture-the-52nd-pga-professional). Alex went on to win the National Championship.

He didn’t stop there. In the 29th installment of the PGA Cup, a competition between golf professionals in the United States and those representing the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, Alex helped to lead the team to a dramatic comeback victory at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, TX.

Going into the final matches, the US team found themselves down 10 points to 6 points after losing 7 of 8 matches on the prior day, but the US team found something special in a final round route to a 14-12 victory over GB&I. The “something special” was sparked, in part, by Alex’s performance on the par 5 18th hole where he hit a tough sidehill chip to inside 10 feet and sank the birdie putt to win one of the early points on the day.

This represents the first time the US has reclaimed the Llandudno International Trophy since 2013 when they last retained it and the first outright win since 2011.
