The annual Riordan Cup was held at Wilderness Ridge on October 17 and 18. This is a match play competition between Nebraska residents (Team Nebraska) in the program vs non-residents (Team World) in the program.
On Thursday the matches were 9 holes of four-ball and 9 holes of foursomes. Each 9-hole match was worth a point and after day one the score was Nebraska=4, World=4. On Friday the format was single matches and Team World was able to secure 4 points to Team Nebraska’s 2 points, therefore winning the Cup. The last several holes were very interesting and it appeared that each student felt the pressure as mental mistakes or poor execution occurred with almost every stroke.
Dr. Riordan was at the event and was able to meet all of the students that participated. He had hoped to play a few holes with the students but wasn’t feeling up to it as he was scheduled for back surgery in mid-November. Final score: Team Nebraska=6, Team World=8.
