Public Information Officer II - Nebraska Department of Transportation (Lincoln, NE)

This position is a critical component to the Nebraska Department of Transportation's (NDOT's) Multimedia Section in our Communication Division.

Examples of Work:
Perform NDOT's website updates and provide feedback on how to improve the functionality of the website. Assist with improvements to the internal websites for employee use. Develop graphics, including informative graphics, to tell the story of the agency and help further the agency's strategic vision. With guidance from the Multimedia Supervisor and Strategic Communication Manager, develop content for NDOT's social media accounts to increase effectiveness and reach while maintaining uniformity. Assist with writing content for various items including publications, graphics, and website.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in journalism, public relations, communications, advertising, creative writing or related field. Experience in developing, planning and managing public relations/publicity campaigns, mass media communication activities or public information programs may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED: Two years of experience in developing strategic content for Social Media. Two years of experience in developing dynamic graphics for story telling.

OTHER: Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: the development, planning, implementation and management of public relation/publicity campaigns, informational material preparation, mass media communication activities, public information programs; statewide and local media sources and operations; reference sources; inter-relationships between public information and administrative/program activities. Ability to communicate effectively with various individuals and groups; apply principles and practices of public relations to operation of a public information function; apply crisis and risk communication strategies; work cooperatively with a team of professionals.
