The Nebraska Press Association (NPA) Foundation encourages talented young people to enter the newspaper business. 2020 is the fourth year that the Foundation will award scholarships to Nebraska college students. The Foundation’s internship program provides a meaningful, hands-on training experience for students interested in news reporting, copy editing, photojournalism, advertising/marketing, graphic design, visual communications or social media. Our internship program prepares students for careers at Nebraska newspapers after they graduate.
Four (4) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to summer interns who are placed at NPA member weekly or small daily newspapers, allowing students an invaluable real-world training experience. If selected as an intern, you would be placed at a weekly or small daily newspaper near the area or areas you put on your application. We will place you in a good learning environment, but we cannot guarantee you placement at a particular newspaper.
This is a paid eight-week internship. Participating newspapers will pay interns a living wage, a housing stipend, and provide on-site, hands-on experience at their newspaper. (Pay is set individually by each participating newspaper.) Internship scholarships are open to student journalists who attend a four-year college in Nebraska.
Interns who successfully complete their summer internship, submit a post-evaluation survey, and provide a brief testimonial (and head shot photo) about their internship experience to the Nebr Press Assn office, will also be awarded a $1,000 NPA Foundation scholarship, to be sent to student’s school for deposit into their account.
