Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) has started offering online scheduling for students seeking an initial evaluation appointment. To schedule an appointment, students are encouraged to go online the morning of the same day they’d like to meet with a provider.
The online appointment scheduling is only for students who are new to CAPS.
“We’re very excited to have our online system up and running for students,” says Tricia Besett-Alesch, director of CAPS. “This request came from students due to the anxiety that calling can incite. Offering same-day initial evaluation appointments has significantly reduced our no-shows and late cancellations, which allows us to get students in sooner. It’s a win-win as we’re enhancing the students’ experiences with our services.”
In addition to same-day appointments for initial evaluations, CAPS also offers immediate crisis services. Students who are experiencing a crisis and need support should call CAPS at 402-472-7450 to triage concerns by phone and schedule a same-day appointment, if needed. The definition of “crisis” is up to the student and their imminent needs.
Students who have previously met with a CAPS provider and are not in crisis should call 402-472-7450 to schedule individual or couples/partner counseling or to discuss group counseling options.
If a student is unsure about counseling and whether it is right for them, they’re encouraged to call to schedule a Let’s Talk session. These brief, informal and confidential consultations can help put students at ease with talking with a counselor.
No matter the type of appointment, students are encouraged to seek help when they need it. An on-call counselor is available by phone 24/7 at 402-472-7450.
