The Education Abroad Office is currently accepting faculty-led program proposals for calendar year 2020. To begin the process, one faculty or staff member per program, designated the “primary leader,” must submit a draft proposal by February 15. Members of the Education Abroad Advisory Committee (EAAC) will provide feedback by March 15. The primary leader will submit a final proposal by April 15. Chairs and deans will approve programs by May 15.
Once approved, the Education Abroad staff will work with the leader throughout the summer to solidify the on-site partnership(s), leadership team, and budget. Education Abroad will request final approval from the chair and dean to post the program budget by July 15 for winter/spring programs and by September 15 for summer programs. This timeline aims to provide students adequate time and information to commit to learning abroad experiences and competitively pursue all scholarship opportunities.
The proposal process moved to a web-based format in “MyWorld” beginning with calendar year 2019 programs. Notable changes to the process for calendar year 2020 include the introduction of college-specific applications, the elimination of the abstract phase, and improvements to the risk assessment questionnaire. If a leader submitted a proposal for 2019, Education Abroad will transfer the responses to the 2020 application.
The number of faculty-led programs offered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has increased significantly in recent years, from approximately 25 to 70 programs proposed each year. For more information, please contact Marnie Nelson, Associate Director of Education Abroad, at mnelson38@unl.edu.
