Visual Communications Internship - UNL Office of Sustainability (Lincoln, NE)

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Office of Sustainability (OS) is seeking a creative graphic design, art, advertising, or journalism student with demonstrated graphic design ability to join our office as a Visual Communications Intern.

The Visual Communications Intern supports the communications team by developing creative graphic solutions including print, digital, social media and collaborates on other ongoing projects. This position is also responsible for photography as well as conceptualizing and creating videos. All work generated for the office will result in great additions to student portfolios. The Visual Communications Intern may also support the OS’s communication initiatives by editing and writing news stories, assisting at events and helping students execute their sustainability ideas.

This paid position offers a flexible schedule of 15-20 hours per week during the semester and option to work full-time in the summer. Applications are due Friday, April 12 2019. Interviews will be set up for qualified candidates. The Visual Communications Intern will report directly to the Communications Specialist, but work closely with all members of the OS staff.

Key Job Responsibilities:
> Support communications team on internal and external design projects
> Assist with concept, design and execution on various digital, web and print design projects
> Conceptualize and create high-quality videos
> Ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance with all required OS brand standards
> Stay current on developments in graphic design and make recommendations for changes that may benefit the OS
> Other assigned tasks as needed

Requirements and Desired Skills:
> Excellent design and communication skills
> Proven experience graphically executing creative concepts
> Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud is required (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
> Photography and Videography ability is required
> Knowledge of paper, color modes and print production (includes RGB v CMYK, bleeds, output mode, margins and bleeds)
> Strong attention to detail
> Ability to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and members of the general public)
> Self-motivated and strong work ethic with a “get it done” mentality
