Events Coordinator - Sheldon Museum of Art (Lincoln, NE)

Under the direction of the Event Operations Manager, the Events Coordinator is responsible for the smooth and successful implementation of events, ranging from venue rentals by external clients to museum-specific programming. This position is tasked with fielding inquiries by telephone and email, determining event logistics, facilitating event set-up and take-down, and upholding all Sheldon Museum of Art and University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) policies and procedures. This position oversees event execution and is the first point of contact for clients and vendors when the Event Operations Manager is not present.

The Events Coordinator also acts as the museum manager on duty during evening and weekend public hours. Offers superior customer service to guests by answering questions, providing information on the building and its collection, and clearly interpreting policies and procedures.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, business, hospitality or related field plus 1 year of professional experience in events coordination and/or management, customer service, or hospitality required; equivalent education/experience considered. Ability to meet challenges calmly and skillfully, and to troubleshoot and solve challenging customer service scenarios necessary. Must possess excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, proactively, and creatively essential. Must be proficient in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment, adhere to deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities required. Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy at all times with multiple constituencies. Ability to lift up to 24 pounds and sustain long periods without sitting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with event management systems helpful. Familiarity with operating and troubleshooting A/V equipment desirable. An appreciation for and understanding of the operations and mission of a university art museum preferred.
