Civic Nebraska is hiring a communications intern to assist the organization with social media, storytelling, and external communications. Civic Nebraska is a nonpartisan nonprofit based in Lincoln that advocates for voting rights, civic engagement, and strong civic education for youth. This position will begin in the Fall 2019 semester and can be extended through the spring 2020 semester.
Roles, duties, and responsibilities:
> Interview staff and volunteers, as well as community members who participate in and benefit from Civic Nebraska’s programs. Create blog posts, social media posts and graphics, and other digital and print content that highlights Civic Nebraska’s impact in the community.
> Assist the Director of Communications in implementing specific communications tactics in support of our Youth Civic Leadership, Civic Health, and Voting Rights Initiatives programs.
> Take occasional photographs and capture occasional video for use on Civic Nebraska’s media platforms.
> Join other staff members to engage with the public at community events where Civic Nebraska maintains a presence (e.g. Haymarket Farmers Market).
> Other communications-related duties as determined by the Director of Communications.
Basic qualifications:
> Undergraduate students in journalism, marketing, communication, and/or public relations.
> A strong word skill and experience/interest in blogging or writing to support civic aims or community development, and/or issue campaigns.
> Willingness to meet people and learn new perspectives.
> Pleasant demeanor, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability.
Preferred qualifications:
> Experience using Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator.
> Experience using Facebook Live.
Compensation:
$10/hour, with a cap of 15-20 hours a week.
